Testing

In-House Testing
We utilize state-of-the-art procedures including the ones listed below. Our sub-specialties are electrodiagnostic medicine and sleep disorders. Our physician reviews each patient’s MRI and CT imaging. The MRI facilities we use are conveniently located near our office and some of them use open MRI machines for patient comfort.
• Electroencephalography (EEG)
• Electromyography / nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCV)
• Evoked potential studies
• Sleep studies
• Tensilon test
EEG (Electroencephalograph)
An EEG records brain waves. This is to help determine the cause of such symptoms as confusion, dizziness, headaches, seizures, or blackouts.
Before the test:
1. Wash and dry your hair
2. NO hairspray, styling gels, etc.

The test will last approximately one hour. Electrodes are placed onto your head with paste. You will not experience any discomfort. Please bring a hat or scarf to wear home following this test.

SLEEP DEPRIVED EEG (Electroencephalograph)
Stay awake 24 straight hours before the test, and also follow the above EEG instructions.
EMG (Electromyography/Electroneurography).
This test is used to study electrical activity of muscles and nerves. This is used to determine the cause of symptoms such as weakness, numbness, tingling, and pain. No special preparation is necessary for this test. The EMG will last approximately one hour. The first 30 minutes involves small electrical pulses placed on the muscles. The next 30 minutes involves small needle electrodes (these are disposable and not reused.) The needle electrode is inserted into the muscle. There will be some discomfort during this test. You will also see the doctor at the conclusion of this test.
